How can therapy help?
As a therapist, I'm here to help you re-examine your beliefs about yourself and the world. You have learned a lot during your time on this planet; some of it has served you well, while some may be holding you back. Let's work together on understanding how you are in the world, how you want to be, and how to navigate the space in between.
For change to be meaningful, it needs to happen not just intellectually, but on an emotional level. I can help you make that deeper change. Together, we can work through some of the painful experiences that have left their mark on you, and bring out the parts of you that want to grow and heal.

Who I Work With
Individuals: I work with individuals to improve their emotional well-being. Whether you are in pain and need help managing overwhelming emotions, want to work on your relationships, or aren't sure what you're looking for but feel that something needs to shift, I can support you in moving towards where you want to be.
Couples: Sometimes what you really want to work on is how you and your partner are together. As with individual therapy, I will work with you to understand your ways of being in the world, along with your needs, patterns and beliefs. In couples therapy, the focus is on you and your partner understanding these things about each other, and learning to communicate non-defensively. Letting go of defensive patterns can lead to a deeper level of intimacy, comfort and aliveness in your relationship.

Services Offered
I offer both traditional talk therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Talk Therapy:
Traditional therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes in length on a weekly basis. We may decide together to pursue more frequent sessions, depending on the level of support you need and the type of work you want to do. Talk therapy is primarily led by the client. I will encourage you to speak freely of whatever comes to your mind, and will help you to identify the themes and feelings that emerge.
Sometimes, clients don’t know what to talk about; they only know that they need help. I make room for this. I will help you build the capacity to tolerate overwhelming feelings that may be causing you to feel shut down, and to build your own vocabulary for naming your experience. I will ask you questions to help you tune into what you are feeling and what you need.
EMDR:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desentisization and Reprocessing) is a technique for working with trauma, anxiety, and your feelings and beliefs about yourself. The traditional technique involves following a visual stimulus back and forth with your eyes. But other forms of bilateral stimulation have been found to be effective as well; for example, the therapist may tap lightly on the client's hands, alternating left and right. In my work, I use a set of handheld buzzers with alternating vibrations.

We may use EMDR in the context of an ongoing therapeutic relationship, or in some cases, as a short-term treatment. You may also pursue EMDR with me as an adjunct treatment to your regular work with another therapist. Before getting started with EMDR, we will have a session to discuss your history, what you hope to work on, and for us to determine together what would be the best approach for you. I use EMDR to treat single-incident trauma, complex/developmental trauma (childhood wounding), anxiety disorders, and as a way to help shift deep-seated feelings and beliefs that are holding you back.
I am trained through the EMDR Institute.
